The problems and situations inmate students face are very different from what peers on the "outside" encounter. Discussing jobs, cars, and recreation only remind inmates of the things they can not do. Students in correctional facilities need to read about people who face the same situations they do: head counts, lock downs, cell mates, corrections officers, yard duty, absent parenting and many others.
We have developed products especially designed for inmate populations. They are designed to develop personal living skills, improve parenting skills, and provide an innovative option for employment after release from prison.
The corrections version of the Personal Living Skills Series was written specifically for adults who are currently incarcerated and who will remain incarcerated for at least twelve months. The situations are real and the steps inmate students can take to improve their attitudes are realistic for their situations.
The Personal Living Skills Series contains six student workbooks. Those workbooks are written below the sixth grade reading level and are excellent for use in adult literacy, Adult Basic Education, GED, parenting, pre-release, behavior management, and other living skills classes. With stories, quotes, and jokes about people like themselves, students gain a better understanding of the material they are reading. They are able to relate to it and therefore retain it. "What's the Point?" sections help students focus."What Do You Think?" sections give frequent opportunities for student interaction. The "WORKBOOK QUIZ" at the end of each workbook can be taken by the student independently or under supervision.
Instructor Resource Guides are available for the Personal Living Skills Series and are purchased separately (see Instructor Resource Guides for Correction Students.)
Parenting for Inmates includes a student workbook, Parenting from the Inside Out, and an Instructor Guide with suggestions on methods to use while using the workbook and the answers to the Final Course Review.
Self-Employment for Ex-felons includes a student workbook, Owning Your Own Business: A Guide for Ex-felons, and an Instructor Resource Guide with answers to the Skills Sections of the student workbook.
